[Video] How to Set the VS10 Engine?
The Zappiti will output Dolby Vision video content into Dolby Vision signal to your TV and activate the TV Dolby Vision mode (if your TV is compatible with Dolby Vision).
If your TV supports Dolby Vision and the LLDV mode is turned on, SDR or HDR video content will be converted and the Zappiti will output Dolby Vision signal through the VS10 engine, and the TV Dolby Vision mode will be activated. This function can be enabled when playing SDR video content. The picture will be more penetrating and get greater brightness contrast and starker color. The result may be not perfectly accurate as the original SDR video content but can offers interesting rendering. So feel free to activate it of not, depending of what kind of picture you like (more vivid or more accurate). We advise you to set the Zappiti in "Auto" mode for HDR video content (note: The LLDV option will only appear if your TV supports Dolby Vision).
When playing HDR10 or HDR10+ video contents, the Zappiti will output HDR10 or HDR10+ according to display device.
Zappiti will output HDR10 or HDR10+ intelligently according to display devices when playing HDR10 or HDR10+ video content if the TV is supporting HDR+. If not, the HDR10+ the Zappiti will output HDR10 signal.
If your TV is not supporting Dolby Vision, the Dolby Vision contents will be converted and the Zappiti will output HDR10 or HDR10+ according to display device through the VS10 engine.
On HDR10 devices, when playing standard SDR video content, the Zappiti convert to HDR10 through the VS10 engine. But to preserve the original SDR, you can turn OFF the VS10 engine for the SDR video content. Please feel free to activate it of not, depending of what kind of picture you like (more vivid or more accurate).
If your TV supports SDR and BT2020 wide color range but no HDR, the video content can be converted from HDR to SDR while retaining the BT2020 color range output through a dedicated option.
If your TV supports SDR but does not support Dolby Vision and HDR, Dolby VS10 engine will convert all video content to SDR (HDR, HDR10+ and Bolby Vision). The downconversion HDR to SDR with the VS10 engine is much more accurate than the previous generation of Zappiti media players. The picture brightness et greatly improved with the VS10 engine, details of the dark parts are well preserved and showing a similar effect of HDR.
You will finally be able to enjoy your HDR, HDR10+ or Dolby Vision content on your SDR TV and thus benefit from a large number of advantages of UHD content encoded in HDR, namely:
- The BT2020 extended color gamut (if your TV or projector is BT2020 compatible).
- Better quality compression thanks to the HEVC / H265 codec.
- Higher bit rate (up to 100 Mbps).
- Number of shades per primary color (8, 10 or 12 bits).
- Better accuracy and color grading.
In the other hand, the Zappiti is capable of displaying UHD content in full 1080p 4:4:4 resolution, i.e. the three layers of the YUV signal in 1920x1080 instead of 960x540 for chrominance on Blu-ray content. You will therefore be able to enjoy a clear gain in resolution on a Full HD television or video projector with UHD content compared to 1080p content.
