There is a work-around. I wanted to string a number of music videos to play in sequence but could not do it with Zappiti. Instead I installed VLC player and created a text playlist in the NAS folder in the .M3U format:

    #EXTM3U
    4 Non Blondes - What's Up.mp4
Ace Of Base - All That She Wants.mp4
    Adele - Skyfall.mp4
    BTS - Dynamite.mp4
Beverley Knight - Piece Of My Heart.mp4
    Blancmange - Don't Tell Me.mp4

It plays fine but for some reason skips any video in 4K. This is simple, very desirable functionality to add to the explorer without too much programming effort.

It does seem that the focus at Zappiti is very much on functionality for playback of feature films. For most users feature films only make up part of their collection.

My main incentive to buy Zappiti was that it played absolutely..... EVERYTHING

But apparently not the Opus codec that is becoming so common!
